Meet the Nimble Vet

Dr. Hanni Horner

Hanni Horner, DVM, is a veterinarian and surgical educator who’s always been drawn to practical and compassionate animal care.

Growing up in the mountains of San Diego County, an early chance to care for a horse around age 15 sparked her lifelong interest in veterinary medicine. She has built a commitment to keep learning from every patient, client, and colleague along the way—and this is her opportunity to give back.

Dr. Horner earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of California, Davis, and then completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University.

After graduation, she began her career as a mixed-animal general practitioner in Cortez, Colorado. Wanting stronger surgical mentorship and a place to grow, she joined the Volunteer Veterinary Surgery Program at the Denver Dumb Friends League, where she sharpened advanced surgical skills and discovered how much she enjoys supporting other clinicians.

With a burgeoning passion for teaching, she served as a relief veterinarian and full-time veterinarian at the Dumb Friends League, helping train volunteer veterinarians and extern veterinary students from across the country.

Over the past thirteen years, Dr. Horner has continued to teach, mentor, and learn in a range of settings, including supporting CSU students in Fort Collins, working in Todos Santos, and training newer veterinarians at Foothills Animal Shelter.

This program reflects both her clinical experience and her ongoing desire to give back by sharing her skills, building others' confidence, and strengthening access to high-quality care.
